This unique experience steps well off the typical tourist trail. Live the life of an elephant mahout, trekking through some of northern Thailand’s remote rural regions and learning the secrets of handling one of the world’s gentle giants. Putting new skills to the test, there’ll even be the chance to take part in a final elephant show - a fitting end to an extraordinary adventure.

Activities include treks of 3 to 4 hours per day in hilly terrain, flat water kayaking or a long day's bike ride, in conditions which are likely to be hot and muggy. You will raise your heart rate on these trips, so a basic level of aerobic fitness is required.
Expect to rough it every now and again, whether it's very simple group-share accommodation at a homestay, a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, the odd cold shower or an encounter with a squat toilet.
4 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners Compulsory New Year's Eve Dinner applies at hotel in Chiang Mai on 31 December.

With vibrant night markets, over 300 temples and plenty of cooking schools, day spas and adventure sports available, there's always something to see and do in this cosmopolitan capital of the north.
Get up close to these gentle giants on a unique encounter that will instruct the basics of elephant command. Upon arrival at the Elephant Conservation Center, receive training materials and a mahout suit made from morhom, a typical northern fabric. Start the experience by paying respects to Ganesha, the elephant god, and then begin the tutorial, learning everything from how to approach an elephant to how to climb on and off.
Visit the Tribal Museum or climb Doi Suthep - the sunset from the summit is sublime. Feast on a final curry and celebrate the end of the adventure with an ice-cold Singha.
