Famous for the sandy beaches that line its coast, Goa is a fascinating and distinctive region in India's south-west. Brimming with Portuguese influences and bursting with fresh food, this region has earned its idyllic badge. There is plenty of time for sightseeing or simply relaxing on the sand.

Calangute is a long sandy beach, offering plenty of options for dining, diversion and relaxation. Fresh food is one of Goa's specialities and there are plenty of local dishes to try. Feast on freshly caught seafood, test your mettle with a fiery fish curry and try to stop at just one sweetly elaborate pudding. A 200 m walk from the beach is the Casa de Goa Boutique Hotel. Colonial-style rooms are air-conditioned and the swimming pool sunlounges are intensely inviting. After soaking up the rays and splashing in the water, spend some time exploring beyond the beaches. Head to Anjuna for its famous weekly flea market, discover the pastel-hued streets of Panaji or soak up the crumbling gothic ambience of Old Goa.

As all good things must come to an end, today it's time to bid farewell to beautiful Goa. Make the most of a free morning first, though, with a final wander along the beach, a fresh pastry and some happy snaps of the palm-shaded sands.
