With sole use of your apartment and with restaurants, piazzas and enchanting bridges almost at your front door, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring the city. This is your own independent adventure, so head out on foot, island-hop on a vaporetto or take a short train journey out of town to Shakespeare's tragic setting - Verona. Day 1 VeniceThe sights and sounds of one of the world's most romantic cities are merely steps from the front door of a private apartment. This is an independent adventure, so embrace the opportunity to experience Venice beyond the canals and to live in the city as locals do.
 

Days 2-7 Venice ApartmentThey say Venice is a great place to get lost, so begin by strolling the bridges connecting the islands or head to Piazza San Marco for a great introduction to local history and architecture. Be sure to visit the Venice waterfront and the Ponte di Rialto, and stop by the Bridge of Sighs to learn the sad history behind its name. Art lovers should visit the Accademia Gallery and gastronomes must spend some time at the Rialto Food Markets. Sampling local cuisine is a great way to learn about Italian culture, so stock up on goodies and create a feast back at the apartment. The city is famous for its polenta, rice dishes and tiramisu, and merely ordering from a menu or visiting a delicatessen is a great way to practise the language. Perhaps take a day trip to Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet. See Juliet's 13th-century balcony and visit the Arena, one of the biggest theatres from Roman times. The Lido is only a short ferry ride away and was the beach setting of Thomas Mann's Death in Venice. Watch Venetian glassmaking in Murano and admire delicate lacework in Burano, or just wander through the tangle of streets as this enchanting city reveals a side of itself around every new turn.
